General FAQ
Why NorTrap AS

NorTrap is a visionary new company with patented technology built upon several years of research. Our vision is to contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable ocean while simultaneously making the fishing industry more efficient and profitable by providing fishermen with critical information about their operations.

Trapsaver™ is a cost-effective flotation device that automatically kicks into action to recover lost traps. It helps fishermen save their valuable gear, keeps the ocean clean by preventing pollution, and ensures they comply with regulations. Fishermen save money and an environmental hazard is removed from the sea and contribute to reduce ghost traps.

The PopupBuoy™ device works using a timer. If it's underwater for a specific amount of time, suggesting gear might be lost, it releases a yellow flotation buoy. This buoy then floats to the surface, showing where the lost gear is, making it simple for fishermen to retrieve it. Fishermen save money and an environmental hazard is removed from the sea and contribute to reduce ghost traps.

How much fishing gear goes missing in the oceans every year?

Research shows that every year, between 500,000 and 1,000,000 tons of fishing gear are lost in the oceans. On average, about 10% of all fishing equipment is left behind in the seas, although this varies from country to country. Surprisingly, most of this gear does not have a system to retrieve it, like the TrapSaver™.

TrapSaver™
Why TrapSaver?
NorTrap AS provides a way of mitigating the loss of fishing gear, thereby avoiding economic loss as well as reducing ghost fishing which negatively affects biomass and future income.

TrapSaver™ requires no maintenance and is designed to operate automatically. Simply replace the original buoy with the TrapFinder buoy, and your task is complete.
How strong is the TrapSaver™ line for pulling things up?
The TrapSaver™ has a strong line that can directly pull up equipment weighing up to 300 kilos. For pulling up heavier items from the ocean, the TrapSaver™ can act as a guide. Just attach a carabiner with a thicker line and a grapple to increase the pulling strength and make sure you can successfully retrieve the submerged equipment
PopupBuoy™
Why PopupBuoy?

Why use SalvageUnit?

PopupBuoy is a convenient and affordable backup buoy system that includes a programmable electronic release mechanism. It helps locate and retrieve lost underwater equipment.

Setting up the system is easy, and once you've set it up initially, it will work on its own without requiring any input from you. Our ATR™ system allows you to release the reserve buoy after a specific number of days that you can select using our app. When the reserve buoy is released, the strobe light will start flashing.

PopupBuoy™ Offshore
Why PopupBouy Offshore?

Why use PopupBuoy Offshore?

We've designed PopupBuoy Offshore  specifically for the commercial fishing industry. Pulling up crab traps from the Bering Sea when the waves are as high as 30 feet can be extremely perilous. That's why we've come up with the HD buoy, which comes with an extra buoy attached. This setup enables the crew to retrieve traps more efficiently and safely, ultimately reducing the wear and tear on your equipment and with the secondary buoy buildtin they have a second chance if gear is lost at sea.
